Conquering Mountains: The Importance of Not Adding Boulders to Your Journey

Life is a journey filled with challenges, obstacles, and mountains to conquer. As we navigate our paths, it's important to remember that we are not alone in our struggles. However, while it's natural to want to help others along the way, it's equally important to not add their burdens, or boulders, to our own journey.

My husband and I love to hike. To be outdoors and soak up the beautiful sites is one way we find peace and happiness. It is where I feel God and I adore everything about it. One day, we were hiking up a particularly steady incline and I was feeling every bit of the weight of my backpack. It dug into my shoulders and caused me to curse the extra pounds it was adding to the already arduous task of climbing up a steep and rocky path. It made me think about my own journey in life and I likened the backpack to all those things I carried that bogged me down. Insecurity, worry, anxiety, self-doubt, and pain from trauma. It was a heavy load. The imagery made me think about how often, because of my empathetic nature and love to help others, I picked up someone else’s boulder and added it to my load in the backpack. Over and over. How heavy that backpack had become!

When we take on the burdens of others, we risk losing sight of our own path and losing the strength we need to conquer our own mountains. This can lead to feelings of overwhelm, exhaustion, and burnout. It's important to set boundaries and prioritize self-care so that we can continue our journey with clarity and strength. Once you learn how to master your own boundaries and can see what your themes of consciousness may be, you can then start giving those boulders back. They are not yours to carry. The act of giving them back will set you free and establish a healthy, loving boundary with your loved ones.

As a life coach, I often work with clients who struggle with balancing their desire to help others with their need to take care of themselves. One of the key lessons I teach is the importance of recognizing when to say no and when to prioritize your own needs. This can be challenging, especially for those who are natural caregivers, but it is essential for maintaining your own well-being.

One way to avoid adding boulders to your journey is to practice active listening and empathy without taking on the emotions or problems of others. By offering support and guidance without shouldering their burdens, you can maintain your own sense of balance and strength.

Another important aspect of not adding boulders to your journey is learning to delegate and ask for help when you need it. It's okay to lean on others for support and to recognize that you don't have to do everything alone. By sharing the load, you can lighten your own burden and continue your journey with renewed energy and focus.

In conclusion, conquering mountains is a journey that requires strength, resilience, and self-awareness. By prioritizing your own well-being and not adding boulders (or burdens) to your journey, you can navigate life's challenges with grace and determination. Remember, it's okay to take care of yourself first so that you can continue to shine brightly on your path.
